Philanthropy conversation series with Mae Hong

Last week we continued our ‘Philanthropy conversation series’, a series of events which brings together individuals who are committed to growing philanthropy in Australia, with two seminars held in Sydney and Melbourne.

We were very fortunate to have special guest speaker, Mae Hong, Vice-President, Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisers (RPA) (USA) and Chair of Grantmakers for Effective Organisations (GEO) – who is an internationally recognised grant-making and philanthropy expert.

During a ‘Q&A’ style session chaired by Ben Clark, Head of Philanthropy, Mae provided the audience with colourful insights into:

• the US philanthropy sector
• giving trends in the US
• effective philanthropy concepts: the importance of capacity building grants and impact investing
• the role of philanthropic advisers such as RPA.
