Our history

Australian Executor Trustees has acquired a number of trustee companies over the years to become one of Australia’s largest and most experienced trustee companies.

1910
Elders Trustee & Executor Company Ltd formed by SA pastoral company, Elder Smith & Co Limited, and listed on the Adelaide Stock Exchange.

1963 
Elder Smith Goldsborough Mort Ltd acquired issued capital of Elders Trustee & Executor Company Limited.

1990 
SCIC purchased Elders Trustee and renames it Austrust Limited.

1991  
Austrust acquires Executor Trustee from the State Bank of South Australia.  Executor Trustee commenced in 1880.

1996 
TOWER Financial Services Group acquires Austrust Limited.

1999 
Austrust Limited changes its name to TOWER Trust Limited.

2000 
TOWER Trust acquires IOOF Trustee (incorporating Farmer’s Trustee and Bagot’s Executor & Trustee Ltd).

2003 
TOWER Australian Wealth Management, incorporating TOWER Trust and Bridges Financial Services, is formed.

2004 
TOWER Trust changes its name to Australian Executor Trustees Limited (AET) incorporating: 

  • Elders Trustee & Executor Company
  • Executor Trustee Australia Limited
  • Austrust Limited
  • Farmer’s Trustee
  • Bagot’s Executor and Trustee Company Limited
  • IOOF Trustees Limited

2005 
Australian Wealth Management  - owner of Australian Executor Trustees and Bridges - separates from the TOWER Group and lists as a separate entity on the Australian Stock Exchange.
